Mula-Mutha River Improvement Project in Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Area
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Pune, has undertaken the Mula-Mutha River Improvement Project to prevent pollution and rejuvenate the Mula-Mutha River.
The Mula River has a total length of 44 km, out of which 33 km is within the PMRDA limits and the remaining 11 km is within the Pune Municipal Corporation limits. The Mutha River has a total length of 36 km, out of which 21 km is within the PMRDA limits and the remaining 15 km is within the Pune Municipal Corporation limits. The combined length of the Mula-Mutha River is 71 km, out of which 53 km is within the PMRDA limits and the remaining 18 km is within the Pune Municipal Corporation limits. The Pune Municipal Corporation is already working on the Mula-Mutha River Improvement Project.
Pollution control work is proposed for a total of 107 km of the Mula, Mutha and Mula-Mutha rivers flowing through the PMRDA area. This project is expected to cost approximately ₹977 crore. This project will be submitted by the Maharashtra State Environment Department to the National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD) under the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti for approval. For this, the central and state governments will provide funds for pollution control works in the ratio of 60:40 of the capital cost. Administrative approval has been granted by the Authority Meeting Resolution No. 11/10 dated 24/09/2024 for ₹977 crore for the above scheme.
The process of appointing a consultant for this project is in progress.
