Sewerage System
The Pune Metropolitan Region, spanning 6914.26 sq. km, includes Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities, Maval, Mulshi and Haveli talukas and parts of Bhor, Daund, Shirur, Khed, Purandar and Velhe talukas. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority is responsible for planning the development of this region, which comprises 2 Municipal Corporations, 3 Cantonment Boards, 7 Nagar Parishads (Municipal Councils) and 697 villages.
Due to rapid urbanization, villages adjacent to Municipal Corporations, Nagar Palikas, Industrial Corporations and educational institutions in the Pune Metropolitan Region are facing significant pressure on basic amenities such as water supply and sanitation. To address this challenge, the Authority has identified 8 rural and 18 urban centers for development.
The Pune Zilla Parishad and Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, Pune, are currently implementing water supply schemes across the Authority area under the Central Government’s Jal Jeevan Mission. However, the rapid urbanization of villages near cities has created an urgent need for sewerage management planning. To address this gap, the Authority proposes to implement comprehensive sewerage schemes in villages within urban development centers.
The proposed project will cover the following areas
- Chakan and surrounding villages
- Alandi and surrounding villages
- Wagholi, Kesnand and surrounding villages
- Bhugaon, Bhukum and surrounding villages
- Khed, Rajgurunagar and surrounding villages
- Shikrapur and surrounding villages
- Uruli Kanchan and surrounding villages
- Khed Shivapur, Nasrapur and surrounding villages
To ensure effective planning, the Authority is in the process of appointing a consultant to prepare detailed project reports for these villages, covering sewerage infrastructure.
